Location: Rome, Milan, Torino, Alessandria, Trieste, Naples, Florence, and Palermo.
Contact: Stefano Chiarini
Description:

"Our committee formed three years ago with the aim of providing a proper burial place and fitting monument to the martyrs of Sabra and Shatila. We wanted to remind people about what happened to the dead and we wished to appeal for justice for the 1982 massacre. In 2000 and 2001 we sent delegations to Shatila to commemorate the massacre. This year, given the grave situation in Palestine and the 20th anniversary of the atrocity, we hope to organize delegations from all over the world to visit Beirut, where people will participate with the massacre survivors in cultural events of high quality. Our committee is composed primarily of intellectuals, activists, and journalists who have worked with the solidarity movement for Palestine. Among our activities are: the translation into Italian of Four Hours in Shatila by Jean Genet, collecting hundreds of signatures for the Indict Sharon Now petition in early 2001, and organizing screenings of the BBC's award-winning documentary The Accused. We have also produced two video presentations about our campaign. Soon we will be presenting a Palestinian film festival (the first in Italy) as soon as we find some sponsors. We are also translating two film by Mai Masri, Children of Shatila and Dreams of Exile, and we have invited her to present her films in Italy in March 2002."
